Finding model and serial number for newer Honda mowers made AFTER 1994

The model and serial number is on a plate on the mower deck behind the engine. It is near the location where the bag attaches to the mower

After you get the model and serial number, you can add K as needed (K indicates version number. ie: K1=Version 1). For example if the plate said
    "Model: HRR2162TDA" then lookup parts using the model number HRR216K2 TDA, HRX2172HXA = HRX217K2 HXA, HRR2168VKA = HRR216K8 VKA.
The serial number is used to confirm the serial number range because some parts are different depending on the serial number of the unit.

Finding model and serial number for older Honda mowers made BEFORE 1994

Older Honda mowers are more difficult to gather the complete model and serial number. There is a 3 step process to determining the complete model and serial number.

Locate the model number. The model tag may have something like HR214-EJ, HR214-EF, HR215-EF, HR215-FN. The model number is the HR214 or HR215,
the last 2 digits (ie: FN) on the model plate means NOTHING for our purposes. Discard those last 2 letters, they are not part of the model number.
Find the the suffix of the complete model number (model type). Some examples are: PDA, HXA, SMA, SX, etc... If the suffix is not found on the Model
Number Plate, look in front of the mower on the deck or on the deck in the back near where the bag attaches to the mower. The letter A in the suffix
means the unit was made for the American Market. For an explanation of what the other letters mean, take a look at this explanation chart.

Determine the model changes version number (ie: K1, K2, K3) using the serial number. Locate the serial number of the mower. Then use the serial
number to determine what is the change version of your unit. - Then combine the model, change version, and suffix to make the complete model number
so you can look up it's parts. ie: HR215K1 HXA, HR214 SXA. Below is a chart of all Honda mowers to help you find the right model number.

Finding model and serial number for Honda general purpose engines

Find parts for Honda general purpose engines requires 3 pieces of information, the model number, the engine type, and serial number.

The model number is normally printed on top of the recoil starter or found on top of the engine. (ie: GX160, GX240)
The type is stamped on the side of the engine (ie: QX2, QX*). For horizontal shaft engines, it's stamped near the base on the right side of the engine if you
are looking at the starter. For vertical shaft engines, it's normally stamped on the metal flat area to the right of the engine.
